Just start where you are
A lot of times people think they need a fancy website, a lot of plugins, and a huge following to start a blog. This isn’t true. A nice website is ideal but there are a lot of free ways to start a blog to where you don’t have to break the bank when starting off. I always tell people that content is the biggest factor. There are plenty of bloggers who have simple layouts on their websites with quality content and pictures. All that matters really is that your site is functional, searchable, and organized.
Think about what you want your blog to be about. You don’t have to be like anyone else and can create your own lane. I chose to blog about motherhood and our kids because that’s a major part of who I am at this present time. Before kids, I blogged about nail trends, products, etc because that was my favorite hobby. Nails still are one of my favorite things to do but since I have two toddlers running around I rarely get a chance to really go in-depth with my designs.
Content is king
Think about your interests and find a niche. Write clear and concise posts. If possible try to let readers know when they can expect new content. Every week? Every Tuesday? Once a month? By doing so, they will most likely check in on your site to see new content on those days. Also, consider starting a mailing list. I strongly suggest doing this. This way you can touch base with those who are genuinely interested in your content.
What to expect next for blogging basics
Over the next few weeks I hope to give insight on key things that you should be including in your blog such as content, SEO practices, domain registration, and hosting. If you’re not quite a beginner nor a pro at blogging (somewhere in the middle on this journey), I highly suggest checking out http://diproco.com/ The owner, Edgar Mercado, is a Web Developer from Mexico who specializes in marketing, SEO, and website design. Although MadisonAddison is established, I always like to get a second set of eyes to check out the site to make sure everything is in order as it should be; Edgar handled just that. I told him my concerns on SEO and he conducted a very detailed analysis of how my site was performing, strong areas, and areas for improvement. His services are definitely worth using. He’s detailed oriented and can definitely put you on the right track for your website. Check him out when you get a chance.
